2018 Day of Smiles: Sharing Smiles

Our nickname may be “The Place For Smiles” but we also love creating smiles within our community. On April 11th, we held our Third Annual Day of Smiles, an event that gathered over 150 of our team members to volunteer at 12 different community service projects throughout the city.

As a company, we invest at least 5% of our pre-tax earnings to support nonprofit organizations – and though we support a wide variety of causes, we focus our efforts on three areas:  Sharing Smiles, Growing Smiles, and Hero Smiles. Click here to read more about each.

On Day of Smiles, 5 of our service projects were focused on “Sharing Smiles” by supporting family wellness and fitness. Read on to learn about how our team spent their day!

Best of the Batch Foundation

A team of our volunteers visited Munhall to help the Best of the Batch Foundation, which was established by former Steeler, Charlie Batch. They helped to beautify the outdoor area to get it ready for the organization’s spring and summer programming. Charlie even stopped by to personally thank our team members for helping out!

The First Tee of Pittsburgh

Fore! One of our volunteer teams helped to beautify the golf course at The First Tee of Pittsburgh, an organization that helps to build character, instills life-enhancing values, and promotes healthy choices to young people through the game of golf.

Girls on the Run

This group of creative volunteers helped the Girls on the Run team prepare for their Shoe Giveaway. They also decorated snack bags and created motivational cards for the program. Girls on the Run helps to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running.

GTECH

A few of our volunteers helped GTECH clean-up a vacant lot in Homewood, which will eventually transform into a greenspace for the community! GTECH helps to improve the social, economic and environmental health of the whole community by ensuring underutilized land serves the greater good.

Sarah Heinz House

Another one of our volunteer teams headed to the Sarah Heinz House, where they helped to clean and spruce up the campus for the spring season! With a focus on character, service, and leadership, Sarah Heinz House provides enriching programs where kids learn to make healthy choices while participating in fun, challenging activities.
