2018 Volunteer of the Year Finalists
Giving back to our communities is one of the fundamental pillars of our company culture. Many of our team members are active volunteers in their neighborhoods and we strive to recognize those who have gone above and beyond by generously giving their time and energy to support causes in their local communities.
Read on to learn about our 2018 Eat’n Park Hospitality Group Volunteer of the Year Finalists, who were nominated by either their managers or colleagues. Keep an eye on our blog for the announcement of our winner in April.
Betty Gordon – Peters Township
Betty, who is the General Manager of her restaurant, doesn’t take her role in the community lightly. She wants to make a difference and spark a change, as evidenced by her sincere dedication to service. Betty is a familiar face at volunteer events that ENPHG hosts throughout the year. Her efforts are multiplied because she always brings with her a group of team members who she has recruited. Inspiring others doesn’t end there – Betty has taken it upon herself to mentor a group of 20 young women. The group meets twice a month and regularly includes a volunteer project, which Betty arranges herself.
Brooke White – Greensburg
Brooke volunteers because she loves to see other people succeed. This motivation is woven into her entire life – from her college major and future profession, social work, to her extensive volunteer efforts. She even helped to found, and is currently the president of, a community service club at her college. Her outreach has touched a wide breadth of causes, including homelessness, domestic violence, cancer research, drug and alcohol prevention, and autism awareness.
Courtney Blood – Parkhurst at Chatham University
Where there is an opportunity to fundraise for Caring for Kids, you’ll find Courtney! Over the years, Caring for Kids has become her passion project. Her tireless efforts have recently won Chatham a spot in the overall Top Ten fundraising sites – the first time a Parkhurst location has ever achieved this. Courtney doesn’t keep her enthusiasm to herself – she inspires her colleagues to get involved alongside of her. This enthusiasm spills over into other organizations she’s involved with, including the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Junior Achievement, and animal rescue groups.
Dave Grec – Latrobe
Dave exemplifies our Core Value of Caring for People both inside and outside of his restaurant. Despite the demands of being a general manager, Dave found a spare 500 hours last year to dedicate to his local fire department. There he serves as a volunteer firefighter and bookkeeper, while also helping the department to fundraise.
Elizabeth “Betty” Heuler – Sewickley
“At least one small act of kindness every day” is the guiding principle by which Betty lives her life. When she is not working at her restaurant, Betty says that she is working to better her community. She uses opportunities provided by her church as a means of community outreach. In 2017, she spent a total of 350 hours supporting her church’s outreach efforts at food drives and soup kitchens, just to name a couple.
Mickey Ivosevic – Cranberry
Mickey is a true Volunteer Champion at her restaurant. Not only does she volunteer individually, but she also continually recruits her colleagues to volunteer with her. While her service through ENPHG hosted volunteer events is important to her, Mickey’s passion is helping women in recovery from drugs and alcohol addiction to reclaim their lives and reunite them with their families.
Venetia Khouri – Hello Bistro Downtown
Volunteering is a centerpiece in Venetia’s life. Just last year, she devoted 578 hours to tutoring, coaching basketball, and leading Bible studies at the Urban Impact, an organization that seeks to transform the lives of adolescents living in Pittsburgh’s North Side. Although she is still in high school, she is resolute in wanting to use her future career as a teacher toward this same mission – to help kids!
Wendy Roberts – Somerset
Self admittedly, Wendy volunteers simply for the sake of helping others. She is a dedicated community servant, who spent 150 hours volunteering in 2017. She is especially passionate about ensuring her fellow community members have food in times of need. Most of her service is spent at the Somerset food pantry, where she volunteers on a weekly basis.

An Update On Parker
It’s been a few months since we announced our partnership with Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, so we’re excited to share an update with you!
Our sweet rescue pup, Parker, is now 8 months old and weighs 58 pounds! She has learned her basic commands and will continue to work on these commands for the next several months. As a lab/Pyrenees mix, she will take a little longer to mature than a German Shepard (a typical service dog breed), but Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs thinks that she will be a great mobility dog for a veteran who has balance issues.
Parker is incredibly loving and fun to be around, and she even took a moment to stop and smell the flowers!
