Partner Spotlight of the Month: Special Olympics

Every month here on our blog, we'll be highlighting one of our non-profit partnerships. This month, learn a little more about the Special Olympics.

“Through the power of sport, Special Olympics strives to create a better world by fostering the acceptance and inclusion for all people.” That was the mission of Special Olympics in 1968 when the program was created and remains the organization’s goal over 40 years later.

Special Olympics provides year-round athletic opportunities and competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities of different levels. Participants are able to experience physical activity and training; teamwork and camaraderie; and the joy that comes with competing and training with their friends, families, and coaches. Athletes of different abilities and disabilities are able to come together and celebrate their dedication and success, on the field and off.

Eat’n Park is a proud sponsor of the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania through financial support, Cookie Cruiser appearances, and many Smiley Cookie donations for tired athletes! You’ll also find Smiley Cookies at events in West Virginia and Ohio, too. Many Eat’n Park team members dedicate their own time and energy to volunteer at events or coach a Special Olympics team. The spirit of giving of thousands of volunteers has made Special Olympics as successful as it is.

As the world prepares for the Summer Olympic Games in London, thousands of athletes in over 200 countries will be competing in their own summer Olympic Games, closer to home. Races will be run, games will be won, gold medals will be awarded, and the smiles will be abundant.

You can learn more about Special Olympics, including how to get involved and donate at http://www.specialolympics.org./

Our Team Members Make Us Smile!

At Eat'n Park in May, we always celebrate two things: The arrival of strawberries (It's the Merry Berry Month of May, remember?) and our fantastic team members. May is team member appreciation month, when we recognize the people to whom we owe our success.

This year, we asked our email club members to share their stories of team members who make their Eat'n Park visits special. Below are a few of the responses we received. You'll notice a common theme among them; it's not that one of our team members saved a guest's life (though we've heard those stories, too), it's that this person routinely goes out of their way to show that they care, and takes a personal responsibility for making our guests happy. After all, that's what we're all about. We wouldn't be "the Place for Smiles" without team members like these ones.

Read on to see if you recognize any of the team members below. And if you're visiting our restaurants this month, please join us in thanking these amazing folks.

----------------------

Team Member: Chris Varner
Restaurant: Morgantown Eat'n Park

"We always try to sit at Chrissy's booth, because she makes us feel like we're visiting her at her house. If she has a minute or two, she will chat with us, which makes us feel like we're friends, and not just a customer. We've been eating "at Chrissy's" for so long, we feel we ARE friends! My husband would eat breakfast there every day if I let him. I keep telling him we can make eggs and toast at home, but he says, "Yeah, but it's not as much fun as eating at Chrissy's.”

CarolJean
Morgantown, WV

----------------------

Team Member: Laura
Restaurant: Penn Hills Eat'n Park

"She always has a smile on her face! She knows so many of her customers by name and greets everyone as they were a guest in her home. Our daughter is involved with Karate and we usually go to Eat’n Park after her classes. Laura calls our daughter her "bodyguard" and shares her accomplishments with anyone who will listen. She makes our daughter feel very special. Laura also is a wonderful waitress. She is a wonderful representative of the Eat’n Park spirit of service with a “Smile.”

Laura
Pittsburgh, PA

----------------------

Team Member: Vickie
Restaurant: Greensburg Eat'n Park

"A friend and I go to the Eat'n Park in Greensburg every Sunday morning for breakfast. We always ask to be seated in Vickie's section and are disappointed when she is on break. We have been doing this for a couple of years. Vickie knows us and what we order. She is always so pleasant and is a bright spot in our weekend. Vickie will go over and above to make our visit special. We've tried another place for breakfast, but it wasn't Eat'n Park and the server certainly could not hold a candle to "our" Vickie. She is a wonderful person and a big asset to Eat'n Park. Keep up the good work, Vickie!!"

Janet
Latrobe, PA

----------------------

Team Member: Mary L.
Restaurant: Canonsburg Eat'n Park

"Well, I have been going to this location for many years, and I ask for Mary L. Well, when I walk in Mary always has a table for me and my family. She brings me what I always order, she knows it off by heart. And she always brings me my food with a smile! She has a great personality! She gets along well with everybody in the restaurant! She never complains about anything, she does her job well, we look forward to our visits at this Eat’n Park! No one compares to Mary L. in the service she brings!!"

Donation Request System Maintenance

Eat’n Park Hospitality Group, Inc is committed to being a great partner to our guests and neighborhoods. To better serve non-profit organizations, our online donation request system will be undergoing maintenance May 7, 2012 through May 23, 2012.

If you’ve visited our donations page lately, you may have noticed that we are not currently accepting donation requests during this maintenance. That also means that during this time we will not be able to process any corporate-level donation requests.

We ask that you revisit our website, www.eatnpark.com/community_donations.asp, after May 23, 2012 to submit any corporate-level donation requests for June or later. We are not able to accept written requests.

If you have an event in June for which you would like to request the Smiley Mascot or Cookie Cruiser, please email CookieCruiser@eatnpark.com with the details of your event. For events in July or later, we ask that you revisit our donation application when the site is again functional.

But, don’t forget that our restaurants can help too! Any restaurant manager can authorize the donation of up to $15 in product, a $10 gift card, or up to 15 dozen Smiley Cookies at half-price. We apologize for the inconvenience, but look forward to improving our donations process to better enhance your experience.

Best wishes for successful fundraising!
