7 Fun Facts about Our Strawberry Pie

We know how much you like to eat Strawberry Pie, but how much do you know about the history of it? Here are 7 fun facts about our beloved dessert.

  1. Our Strawberry Pie was born in 1954. And it’s in good company! Born the same year as Jerry Seinfeld, John Travolta, and Oprah Winfrey.
  2. Claire Moore, daughter of Eat’n Park founder Larry Hatch, was the one who came up with the Strawberry Pie recipe. It started when her husband, Bob Moore, who also worked for Eat’n Park, asked her for help in creating what has become the iconic strawberry glaze.
  3. She concocted it in the kitchen of her Scott Township home! It should be a local historical landmark, right?
  4. The glaze was one of the hardest parts to perfect. Claire made several pies and submitted them to her neighbors, who would grade them for her with comments like “too sweet” and “too tart.” After a few rounds of feedback and adjustments, the neighbors finally agreed she had made a delicious Strawberry Pie.
  5. Eat’n Park was one of the first places to ever receive fresh strawberries by air freight (yes, really!). While today it’s a summer staple, in 1962, the Strawberry Pie was served in the winter by shipping strawberries from Plant City, Florida.
  6. Our Strawberry Pie consists of 2 pints of strawberries. That equals about four cups!
  7. Our Strawberry Pie weighs about 3 pounds. It weighs more than a bag of coffee, a paperback book, and a shoe.

Order a slice of Strawberry Pie today and add it to your Eat’n Park meal. Then think about how when you’re indulging in the deliciousness, you’re also enjoying a piece of Eat’n Park history.
