Eat’n Park Family Week at the Pittsburgh Zoo

Hey, Guys and Gals! It’s Marissa from Team Smiley! This past weekend, Smiley and the gang hit the road and traveled to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium for Eat’n Park Family Week. There were many wonderful people and eager cookie lovers in attendance. Over the course of two days, the team passed out a whopping 4,800 decorated cookies! We even made sure to give a few extra to the talented artist who made this beautiful chalk drawing of the Eat’n Park logo.

On Saturday, we had the perfect spot by the aquarium where we could watch excited kids interact with both the aquatic animals and Smiley! It was a special treat when we were visited by a massive sea turtle that looked like Crush from Finding Nemo. Even though we couldn’t swim with the real fish, Smiley made a new friend with the zoo’s mascot, Sharkey! Their playful encounters had the kids and families inside the aquarium roaring with laughter!

All in all, Team Smiley had a fun filled weekend. Stay tuned for more exciting stories from Smiley’s adventures and click here to see where he’ll be visiting next!

P.S. Always remember that Smiley Cookies are both friends AND food ;)

Hugs and Smiles!

Team Member Appreciation Month

For many years, May has been a very special month at Eat’n Park – Team Member Appreciation Month.

During this time, we strive to thank and recognize our hardworking Eat’n Park team members in the field for their years of dedicated service.  Each location throws a special party for their crew, recognizing service milestones ranging from 5 to more than 40 years! In fact, we even have an annual dinner for our Quarter Century Club – a group of current and retired team members who each have more than 25 years of service with the company.

In addition to these celebrations, every person who works in our Corporate Support Center (CSC) takes a day to work at one of our restaurants. They help out wherever needed - be it seating guests, chopping up vegetables, or even making Strawberry Pies. And when we say every person, we mean it! Our CEO, Jeff Broadhurst, not only chipped in to help out at our Uniontown restaurant this year, but he also became an expert in taking selfies with the team!

At our South Hills Village location, our CSC visitors really got into the spirit, dressing in Eat’n Park uniforms from the past few decades! They even brought along fun cardboard cutouts which were inspired by our Big Boy days.

During this special month, we also take the opportunity to thank over 1,200 volunteers who donated more than 30,000 hours of their time to help make our neighborhoods a special place to live. Each volunteer received a special pin to recognize their hard work in their community. Our team member volunteers at our Avalon location were all smiles and are looking forward to another great year of volunteering!

Even though May has been selected as our special month to showcase our team members, we strive to thank them all year long, and you should too. Next time you see someone do a great job, let them know! Passing along a compliment and a smile will always be appreciated any time of the year!

Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games

Hello, everyone! It's Laina here from Team Smiley. Last week, the team packed up and headed to Penn State University for the Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games. Each year, those who qualify through their local Olympic games move on to represent their area at these state games. It was amazing to see their many weeks of training and dedication in action!

Team Smiley had a great day cheering on all the athletes!  After they were done competing, the participants were so excited to show off their cookie decorating skills as well as their awards! Smiley also made a special appearance to congratulate all the event winners. He was greeted with many high fives and hugs. Everyone was so excited to see him!

This was such a fun-filled day for us and we can’t wait to meet even more Eat’n Park fans as the summer continues! Click here to see which fun-filled event we’ll be at next!

Smile on!

Team Smiley at Autism Speaks Walk

Hi, cookie lovers! Last weekend, Team Smiley showed their support at the Autism Speaks Walk in Schenley Park, where hundreds of families came to walk, support, and eat cookies. From attending this event, we learned that Autism affects 1 in 68 children. Smiley was excited to meet all of the children and their families, and to help spread awareness for the cause. One family even asked Smiley to hang out with their own team mascot, a toy monkey!

At the event, Smiley also got the chance to hang out with a few other local mascots including Iceberg and the Pittsburgh Pirates parrot. They had a great time dancing with the participants and showing off their latest dance moves!

It was heartwarming to see people at the event with big smiles on their faces. We cannot wait to go back to this super fun and welcoming event! Click here to see where Smiley and the team will be heading next!

Brooke

Kites For Kids

Hi, everyone! It’s Melissa here from Team Smiley! To kick off the summer, Team Smiley traveled to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium to participate in Kites for Kids, an event held by the non-profit agency, Kids Voice, that helped to raise awareness for foster care and child abuse prevention. The zoo was decorated with an abundance of colorful kites, which served as everlasting reminders of hope and happiness.

Smiley was super excited to meet some new friends and spread smiles across the entire zoo with the help of Team Smiley. The team passed out hundreds of cookies for visitors to enjoy as they traveled around the zoo for the day. One friend Smiley was initially very afraid to meet was the aquariums’ shark! However, with the encouragement of Team Smiley, Smiley managed to conquer his fear and realize that the shark was not scary after all!

Everyone at the zoo had a fantastic day filled with hope, happiness, and of course, SMILES!

Summer is here, and the fun is just beginning for our newest interns: Team Smiley! This enthusiastic crew is about to start their summer-long journey across the tri-state area, where they’ll be visiting fundraisers, festivals, races, and other community events from now through the fall.

Where Team Smiley goes, fun follows. Click here to see when they’ll be visiting your neighborhood, then stop by with the family to meet Smiley and enjoy a free Smiley Cookie – or even decorate one yourself!

All summer long, you’ll be able to read about Team Smiley’s adventures here on our blog. And, if you happen to cross paths with them at an event, be sure to stop by and say hello!  You can even check our Photo Gallery to find your photo!

So, you probably want to know a little more about these fresh new faces. Luckily, we’ve got the scoop. Read on!

Team Smiley 2016: (Left to Right) Melissa, Laina, Colby, Marissa, and Brooke.

Melissa
Hi everyone! My name is Melissa and I’m a junior at Saint Vincent College where I am pursuing a major in Marketing and a minor in Graphic Design. I love baking, traveling, going on adventures, making arts and crafts, and spending time with my family and friends. Most of all, I love spending time with my new friends on Team Smiley! I am a food fanatic, and my favorite Eat’n Park meal is the Chicken Fajita Flatbread.  I also love all varieties of Smiley Cookies, but my favorite seasonal style is the Halloween Smiley Cookie with the candy corn! I’m looking forward to an amazing summer full of meeting new people, learning new things, and spreading smiles with Smiley and the rest of my wonderful team!

Laina
Hi, cookie lovers! My name is Laina, and I am a junior at the University of Akron, studying Public Relations with a minor in Marketing. I have been a team member at our Sewickley location for the past three years, so I am very excited to experience a company that I know and love on a whole new level! My favorite meal from Eat’n Park is anything that goes well with our famous ranch (which is the best that there is)! When I’m not kicking it with Smiley and the rest of our awesome team, I like to go on road trips, crank up some music, or binge watch my favorite series on Netflix. I am excited to create smiles all summer long for the guests who make this company so great!

Colby
Hello friends! My name is Colby and I am a current student at Duquesne University studying both Digital Media Arts and Public Relations & Advertising! When I’m not hanging out with Team Smiley, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, going to Pirate games, trying all types of new food, and singing. My favorite Eat’n Park menu item is the Chicken Tenders with French fries or mashed potatoes (and a side of ranch of course!) You might be interested to know that I am a third-generation Eat’n Park team member as my grandmother worked as a waitress for 15 years and my mother as a waitress for 26 years (and counting!) at our Avalon location. Before Team Smiley, I also worked on the front lines in Avalon for two and a half years. My main goal this summer is to learn how to ride a bike, and I’m hoping Smiley can help teach me! I’m looking forward to traveling around with Smiley and meeting tons of new people to share smiles and fun times with!

Marissa
Hey everyone! My name is Marissa and I am a senior at the University of Pittsburgh. I am majoring in Media and Professional Communications, minoring in Sociology, and receiving three certificates in Nonprofit Management, Digital Media, and Corporate and Community Relations. (You could say I’m a bit busy!)  I am super excited to be a part of this year’s Team Smiley and am keen to learn more about Eat’n Park, our reputable brand, and  how the company is active in the surrounding communities. Coming from New York we do things a bit different, so I am eager to see how Pittsburgh gets down in the summer. :-) When I am not jamming out in the Cookie Cruiser, I love spending quality time with my family and friends, especially when we go on adventures or take week long vacations to exotic locations. The quote from the Fresh Prince theme song “chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool” pretty much sums up how I like to spend my free time. All in all, my goal for this summer is to share my smile and a Smiley Cookie with those who might need a little treat to sweeten up their day!

Brooke
Hey all! My name is Brooke and I am a senior at Duquesne University studying Integrated Marketing Communication and Intercultural Studies. Other than hanging out with Smiley all over the tri-state area, I like to spend my time in the dance studio and adventuring with my friends. This exploratory drive has led me to Team Smiley and I am excited to eat my way through our restaurants and your communities! One Eat’n Park meal just isn’t enough! This summer, I am looking forward to visiting the zoo and Pirate’s games so make sure to be on the look out for Smiley and our team!
