Team Smiley Visits the Carnegie Science Center

Hello there, cookie enthusiasts! It’s Natalie from Team Smiley! This past weekend, we had a blast at the Carnegie Science Center celebrating Smiley’s Birthday Party. The rainy day brought out many little scientists and the team was a hit passing out cookies and sharing smiles! Our new friends also had the opportunity to decorate their own cookies, which got their creative juices flowing for their day of exploring ahead!

Smiley made a lot of friends during his visit who love science just as much as he does. He is already a smart cookie, but during his visit he learned countless new fun facts about space, water, and so much more!  Team Smiley had an amazing time and we hope to return very soon.

Stay tuned for more updates from Team Smiley this summer!

Smiles!

2015 Team Appreciation Day

Hi, Eat’n Park fans! My name is Amy, and I'm one of the newest team members at Eat'n Park Hospitality Group’s Corporate Support Center (CSC). Eat’n Park is truly a company like no other because every year for the past 25 years, May has been designated as Team Member Appreciation Month. During this time, all CSC personnel take a day to work alongside the team members at one of our many locations, where we help out wherever needed, be it seating guests or even making Strawberry Pies. It’s a way to thank and recognize our hardworking Eat’n Park team members in the field for their years of dedicated service. After all, they are the face of our brand!

I celebrated my first Team Appreciation Day with the wonderful people at our Squirrel Hill Eat’n Park. I have never worked in a restaurant before, so everything was entirely new to me.  The team is extremely hard-working, but still managed to have a great deal of fun – in my eyes, the perfect combination! Our team members aren’t just co-workers, they’re family!

During my day, I spent time with Michelle, the General Manager, who taught me a lot about the restaurant. A unique thing about Squirrel Hill is that they do a lot of their business at night, so they operate a little differently than other restaurants. For example, the greeter at night is in charge of both seating guests and preparing any take-out orders. It’s basically like being in two places at once – but they make it seem easy! Another thing I learned is that many of the team members are so good at what they do that they are sent to help train new hires at other Eat’n Park restaurants. I was really working with an all-star team!

I also helped with tasks around the restaurant including chopping lettuce and wrapping silverware. These may seem like minor chores but in a busy restaurant, every little bit helps and being the new kid in the kitchen, it took some time before I got the hang of things.

Before I left, I helped to set up for their Service Awards, a ceremony where we recognize those that are celebrating milestone anniversaries with the company.  As with any good celebration, there were plenty of tasty treats - like this delicious cake made especially for the occasion by Michelle.

We had 5 awardees that had a combined total of 50 years of service! Michelle spoke about each awardee, and presented them with their anniversary gift.  It was really great to learn about their amazing contributions and dedication to Eat’n Park.

There are many committed and enthusiastic people working our front lines. Next time you see one of our team members doing a spectacular job, don’t forget to thank them for their great work!

2015 Awardees (from left to right): Jessica, Matt, Deanna, and Sulai.

Thanks to Eat’n Park Squirrel Hill for letting me join their team – or should I say, family – for a day!

Eat’n Park Family Week at the Zoo

Hi, friends! It’s Emily from Team Smiley. This past weekend, Team Smiley had a great time at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium for Eat’n Park Family Week. We enjoyed learning about conservation, local activities, and Zoo operations! Our visit was filled with lots of cookies and tons of smiles. The team passed out over 600 cookies and prepared for a “wild” time with the animals.

The team was super excited when we had the chance to go on a behind the scenes tour of the giraffe exhibit. Smiley even made a new friend, Louis the giraffe!  We were also able to wander around the zoo to see some other animals. Everyone always says how cute Smiley is, but what about the red pandas?! We had a fun-filled time exploring and spending time with his new friends!

Stay tuned for updates from other Team Smiley events this summer.

Keep on Smiling!

Carnegie Library Reading Extravaganza

Hey there, friends! Team Smiley here to tell you about our smile-filled afternoon at the Carnegie Library Reading Extravaganza. The event, situated in the heart of Oakland, kicked off the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s popular Summer Reading program and featured karaoke, balloon animals, food trucks, and of course, cookie decorating and a visit from Smiley.

We had nearly 3,000 cookies at this event and everyone greeted us with lots of smiles and excitement.  The cookies were such a huge hit that they nearly flew off the table!

All of the children had a blast decorating their very own cookie-masterpieces with LOTS of icing. We definitely saw some future cookie Picassos throughout the day.

Smiley enjoyed meeting new friends as well as reuniting with ones from the past. He also appreciated all of the hugs and birthday wishes he received throughout the day. Some friends even sang happy birthday to him!

Smiley and the team can’t wait to visit the Reading Extravaganza again next summer! Click here to see where we’ll be going next and don’t forget to follow us on Twitter and Instagram (@ENPTeamSmiley)!

Walk Now for Autism Speaks

Hey Smilers, it’s Veronica from Team  Smiley! We had another fun-filled weekend doing what we do best: delivering cookies and smiles to people of all ages! Read on for an overview of the fun we had at the Walk Now for Autism Speaks event at Schenley Park.

Team Smiley woke up bright and early, packed the Cookie Cruiser with LOTS of cookies, and headed to the heart of Oakland for an exciting morning promoting Autism awareness! Smiley was so excited to see Oakland's iconic landmark, the Cathedral of Learning, that he just had to get a photo.

Smiley also ran into his old pals Roc, RoMo, Steely McBeam, and Iceburgh! They all showed off their best moves as they danced to the Electric Slide and the Wobble.

Smiley wasn’t the only one having fun! Team Smiley loved cookie decorating with kids of all ages! We were especially impressed with all the awesome T-shirts designed by the walker teams!

Another fun cookie filled weekend with Team Smiley is in the books! Click here to see what we are up to next and follow us (@enpteamsmiley) on Twitter and Instagram!

Peace, Love, and Smiles!

Know Your Source Videos Receive National Recognition

Last year, I was asked to be involved in our Know Your Source commercials for Eat’n Park, and I’m excited to announce that two of them won National Telly Awards!  The National Telly Awards honor the very best film & video productions, groundbreaking online video content, and outstanding local, regional, & cable TV commercials and programs.

Being involved in these videos has been a real learning experience for me; prior to this, I had no idea how much time and effort went into producing even a 30-second commercial!  That being said, you might be surprised to know that these were produced with just one videographer – the exceptionally talented Rich Waters of Rich Waters Photography – with direction from our very own creative icon, Cliff Miller.

The first award was given to us for the TV commercial we shot last May, featuring our partnerships with local farmers like Yarnick’s and Brenckle’s. It also featured our Pickled Pepper Steak Sandwich, which will be coming back on our menu this summer! Check out the video here.

The second award was given to us for our commercial featuring the Edwards family from Parma Sausage. We use their Capicola in our Italian Breakfast Club and their Chorizo sausage in our Breakfast Burrito and South of the Border Stack. Watch the video here.

We’re also filming additional commercials and videos about our Know Your Source partners that will air in July! These commercials have been a lot of fun and hopefully the passion and pride of our partners comes through.

Check out all of our Know Your Source videos here.

Until next time,
Jamie

Team Smiley 2015: (Left to Right) Emily, Natalie, Veronica, Elizabeth, and Kendall

EMILY
Hi, everybody! My name is Emily and I’m a junior at Wake Forest University, where I’m majoring in Communications and minoring in Entrepreneurship and Social Enterprise. When I’m not busy creating smiles on Team Smiley, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, playing and watching sports, and traveling. In the fall, I am looking forward to studying abroad in Florence and introducing my new Italian friends to the Smiley Cookie! I just wish they could experience The Park After Dark and taste my favorite late night snack – Grilled Stickies!  This summer, I am looking forward to cheering on the Pirates and arriving at PNC Park in style with the Cookie Cruiser! My favorite cookie of all time is the traditional Smiley Cookie. It’s truly an iconic Pittsburgh staple – so much so that my family is giving out Smiley Cookies to all out of town guests at my sisters wedding this summer!

NATALIE
Why hello, everyone! My name is Natalie and I am a junior with a Communication major and a Theatre minor at Denison University. I love going on adventures and can’t wait to travel around with Team Smiley! When I’m not cruising through town with my pal Smiley, I love to sing, hang out with family and friends, watch Netflix, and have dance parties. I’d have to say, my favorite Eat’n Park menu item is the Buffalo Chicken Wrap and my favorite Smiley Cookie shape is the shamrock! I’m looking forward to working with a wonderful team to help spread smiles and joy this summer all over town!

VERONICA
Hi, Smiley friends! My name is Veronica and I am currently a student at Robert Morris University studying Hospitality and Tourism Management. I love hanging out with my friends and family, shopping, going on adventures, and making people laugh! I love food and my favorite Eat'n Park meal is the Pittsburgh Turkey Sandwich, yum-o! Finish it off with my favorite Bucco themed smiley cookie and I'm a happy camper! You might be surprised to learn that I don't know how to ride a bike, but I'm hoping my new friend Smiley can help teach me! I super excited to travel this summer with my fellow Team Smiley friends and of course the very special cookie himself, Smiley!

ELIZABETH
Hi there, everyone! My name is Elizabeth and I am a senior Strategic Communications and Political Science major at Ohio University.  When I'm not hanging out with Team Smiley, you can find me spending time with my friends and family, writing, enjoying the sun, or watching my latest, favorite television series on Netflix. Something everyone may not know about me is that I studied abroad in Paris last summer; it was the most amazing experience of my life and I can't wait to visit Europe again (hopefully) in the near future!  Although it is a difficult decision, my favorite Eat'n Park meal is the Buffalo Chicken Wrap followed by a classic round Smiley Cookie, of course! I can't wait for a fun, smile-filled summer spent making memories with Team Smiley and the wonderful people we meet along the way.

KENDALL
Hi everyone! My name is Kendall, and I am a junior at Penn State University. My major is Business Management with a focus in Human Resources. I love meeting and interacting with new people, so I am very excited to be a part of Team Smiley! Aside from hanging out with my new pal Smiley, I love spending time with family, playing tennis, going to Zumba classes, and lounging with my dog, Zoey. For the past 5 years, I have worked for Eat’n Park at the McKnight Road location. I am looking forward to seeing a different side of Eat’n Park with Team Smiley! My favorite Eat’n Park meal is definitely the Chicken Bruschetta with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Yum! My favorite Smiley Cookie shape is the original round Smiley with purple icing. I can’t wait to work with an awesome team this summer and spread smiles with our friend Smiley!
